Images are everywhere you look when you are out and about or at home. Although we exist in a world of images, remember that you are the sole author of your narrative. You are in control of what you do to your body and with your mind. Runways, magazine covers, social media, and televised impressions suggest how you should look, dress, think, behave, and more. You do not have to subscribe to those things. Be yourself.
If you desire a different look, whether it is a haircut or a change in wardrobe, know that it is acceptable to change those things if you are comfortable with acquiring a new look. As long as you are enacting changes to delight yourself, and they are not too extreme, make sure that the changes are necessary, temporary, or exemplary.
Necessary changes are such that you actually require. Hooray! You auditioned for a role in a Broadway musical. The role you earned requires that you be in full character from day 1, including a distinct haircut.
You have been considering a tattoo for a long time. Not so fast! Why not try a temporary or henna tattoo. Having a tattoo with permanence is a doozie to correct. Plus, you might change your mind afterwards. This option leaves room for that.
An exemplary change would be one that unquestionably benefits you and brings you joy without any overly negative consequences. Let’s say that you landed an internship. What seems to be the only foreseeable downside to it is the commute. Though you are not looking forward to it, a girl has options: you remember that your sister is seeking a roommate and asked you before posting a wanted ad and asking her cohorts. She lives in a spacious condominium that has plenty of room for the two of you, she does not have children, and she has fully furnished the place. The only thing missing is you.
Welcome to your first day of being the new, self-assured you.
